Emirates Cup

The Emirates Cup is a pre-season tournament that has taken place for the last two summers and is hosted by English Premier League team Arsenal at their Emirates Stadium in North London. Emirates Airlines have agreed to sponsor the tournament for another two years after this summer’s extravaganza, so fans can enjoy their pre-season entertainment for a couple more seasons yet. You can catch all the action as it unfolds by joining us here at oleolefootball.com and enjoying the live stream football in all its glory.

The tournament always plays host to just four European teams, the hosts Arsenal, and three others who are invited. They only play twice each, so each team will not play one other at all during the tournament. It is played over just two days, and this summer’s games will take place on August 1st and 2nd 2009. The tournament has adopted a different points system to conventional league football; although there are still three points for a win and one point for a draw, each goal scored adds an additional point to the tally.

The participants who will line up this year include the hosts Arsenal, Scottish champions Rangers, French side Paris Saint-Germain and Spanish team Atletico Madrid. Day one kicks off on August 1st with Rangers facing Paris Saint-Germain in the early match, which is then followed by Arsenal against Atletico Madrid. Day two on August 2nd will see the early match of Paris Saint-Germain against Atletico Madrid, followed by Arsenal versus Rangers.

All the matches that have taken place in the two year history of the tournament so far have attracted crowds in excess of 50,000, and this summer’s games will be no different, especially with thousands of fans expected to travel down from Glasgow following Rangers.

The first tournament which took place in the summer of 2007 featured Arsenal, Paris Saint-Germain, Inter Milan from Italy and Spain’s Valencia. Arsenal lifted the inaugural trophy after two 2-1 wins, the first over Paris Saint-Germain and the second against Inter Milan.

The 2008 tournament saw Arsenal pit their wits against Hamburg of Germany, Spanish giants Real Madrid and the classy Italians from Juventus. Each team in the tournament won one game and lost the other, so the goals scored and the extra points for doing so came into play. Hamburg managed to score the most goals, four in total, and therefore win the trophy, but not before scoring two goals in injury time against Juventus in their second game to secure a 3-0 win.

This season’s tournament will give all four managers a very good test just before the start of their respective 2009/2010 league campaigns. The level of football is normally very high in the games as each team is almost at an end of their pre-season training and almost ready for competitive action.

If there is a telltale sign of the upcoming English Premier season it may be that Blackburn now offers the cheapest tickets in the entire league. Is that a simple recognition of the current economy or an admittance of the team being unable to compete? They were able to hang on to top flight status last year which will give fans a chance to watch more Blackburn live EPL games, but can they remain competitive? OleOleFootball is the best place to find out what will happen during the EPL 2009-10 season with all the live streaming football you can handle.

There were times last year when the Rovers were in shambles with losses like the 3-0 game at Wigan, but a lot of that may have been justified by a number of injuries. However they did show some resilience in hard fought games against Fulham and Manchester United and have been boosted by the signings of Franco Di Santo and Nikola Kalinic. It is up to manager Allardyce to ensure that he gets the most from his players every time the take the pitch. They can’t afford to deal with off days from inconsistent players such as Jason Roberts, El Hadji Diouf and Benni McCarty, especially with Brett Emerton and David Dunn injured.

Confidence is often seen as key in football, and Blackburn will need all the confidence they can get in order to get off to a good start. A poor start this EPL 2009-10 season could make for a scary and downright hellish October as the team has to travel and face Manchester United, Arsenal, and Chelsea.

Be sure to sign up with OleOleFootball to watch Blackburn live and see if they can overcome adversity and remain competitive this year. Will key players step up or will the fans revolt after poor play, no matter how cheap the ticket prices are? Tune in and watch the English Premier League live to find out.…

Football fans are hard pressed to find positive news for the upcoming season in terms of Birmingham City. Scottish manager Alex McLeish could barely keep the board happy last year in a promotion season and this year will just get tougher now that they are in the Premier League. McLeish is seen as the likeliest candidate to lose his job first this year. Will that happen or will Birmingham City shock the Premier League? Log in with OleOleFootball to watch Birmingham City live and find out.

Birmingham city needs to get in better shape and show some improvement soon. They are coming off a disappointing pre season and while friendlies are not the best gauge of talent, the team is showing real problems scoring goals. The team has been charged with uninspired play as of late but if anyone can deal with the pressure it is McLeish, who also lead the Rangers for 5 years.

The team is ripe with up and coming players who are eager to prove themselves during live English Premier League football. Birmingham has brought in Scott Dann, Roger Johnson and Christian Benitez in hopes that they can lead the way on defence and bring goals about respectively. The team has been focused on building experience and leadership this year. They have Lee Bowyer, Barry Ferguson, Sebastian Larsson, Damien Johnson and James McFadden all competing for spots. Joe Hart is a younger player but has just as much to prove after coming over on loan from Manchester City.

While Birmingham may add more players and squeak out some narrow victories, the season looks like it will be filled with sparse entertainment and quite a few rumors around the dismissal of McLeish. However there is only one way to find out what will really happen, and that is by watching all the Birmingham live football. And the best place to do that is with live streaming football on OleOleFootball.…

Manchester United

After successfully putting together three campaigns in a row that were full of trophies, there seem to be a few question marks hanging over Manchester United this season. For the first time in a while the team is dealing with some adversity and it will be interesting to see how they react. You can watch Manchester United live by tuning in right here on OleOleFootball, your home for live English Premier League football.

Possibly the biggest news out of Manchester this summer has been the defection of both Cristiano Ronaldo and Carlos Tevez. Ronaldo left for Real Madrid in the largest transfer deal ever and Tevez was lured to Manchester City during their massive spending spree. The two moves have robbed United of some of their star status and have left them with more than a few holes to fill.

However if any team can overcome the adversity this 2009-10 EPL season it is Manchester United. No one is willing to count them out just yet and Alex Ferguson’s team can handle the pressure. Ferguson has an unmatched ability to put together winning teams and there are still a number of stars on the team including Berbatov and Wayne Rooney.

It appears that Nemanja Vidic is expected to return strong from injury for the season and the team has brought in new up and comer Antonio Valencia. Of course possibly the most popular player on the team right now is Michael Owen. He is trying to prove that he can still lead the way and could be one of the best and most underrated signings during the transfer season. If own and Valencia can step up and young players Federico Macheda and Danny Welbeck can come into their own, Manchester United should prove to still be one of, if not the, top team in the EPL.

You are not going to want to miss a single Manchester United live game this year and you don’t have to thanks to OleOleFootball. Sign up, tune in, and get all the live footy action you could want.…

Stoke City

Stoke City has never been considered an elite team in the English Premier League but they have always played hard and brought good competition to the top division. This year they will be looking to improve on their 12th place finish last year and possibly turn the corner and finish in the top 10. A top 10 finish would be a huge step and you can watch Stoke City live and their journey all season long by tuning into OleOleFootball.

Stoke City live football at home has always been their strong point. Last year, after a slow start the team really came together and were able to finish with a 10-5-4 record in their home, Britannia. The problem for the team was their abysmal road record as they finished 2-4-13 away from home and never seemed to be at their best when playing on someone else’s turf. Still the good news is that they improved in the second half of the year and that their strong home record kept them in the Premier League for a second year in a row.

In terms of player chances the team has brought in a trio of new faces, Matthew Lund, Dean Whitehead and Ben Marshall. They only player to leave was Danzelle St Louis-Hamilton. Even though they didn’t play well on the road last year they still defied many predictions of football experts and will try to that again this year in Stoke City live football matches.

All eyes will be on James Beattie this year as he helped the team survive last year after coming over from Sheffield United. After his transfer he seemed to inspire the rest of the team to play harder and improve their form. Tony Pulis will hope that he can once again lead the way and you can see it all go down right here with live streaming football on OleOleFootball.…

Manchester City

It is obvious that Manchester City is one of the biggest stories this year and there are a lot of expectations following the team around. City stepped up this year and made a commitment to winning by going on one of the largest spending sprees that football fans have seen in quite some time. Will all the money they threw around help them climb to the top of the divison? Tune into Manchester City live games on OleOleFootball all season long to find out.

The team has not really started their whole team together so far in the pre season but they have been playing well. Manager Mark Hughes spent an incredible amount of money this year and brought in the likes of Carlos Tevez, Gareth Barry, Emmanuel Adebayor and Roque Santa Cruz to name a few. Many people wonder how all the stars will mesh together but everyone is excited to see this team take the field.

With all the big names joining the team there is still a lot of work for Manchester City to do in order to compete with the best teams in the English Premier League. All eyes will be on Tevez and Santa Cruz as fans are hoping that these prized players can bring them to the promise land. Gareth Barry will also play a central role in the midfield after proving his elite status with Aston Villa last year.

With Barry’s midfield play, Santa Cruz’ powerful strikes, Tevez’ lightning quick play and Adebayor’s attacking play the Citizens have all the tools to bring titles to the team. How the gel, mesh, and play together will have a big effect on the entire season. Can all the stars co-exist and play together? Or is this just money thrown around without any thought? Group A consists of hosts Qatar, neighbours Kuwait, China and 1994 Asian Games champions Uzbekistan. Qatar failed to get past the group stage when they last hosted the tournament in 1988 and will be hoping to avoid a repeat in 2011.

Group B has two three time champions in the form of Saudi Arabia and Japan, with Jordan and Syria completing the numbers. Saudi Arabia were also the runners up in the last edition of the tournament that was won by Iraq.

Group C is easily the toughest group in the tournament. It pits South Korea, Australia, Bahrain and India against each other. South Korea and Australia both appeared at the 2010 World Cup and performed creditably, while Bahrain were just a step away from qualifying for the tournament, losing in the intercontinental playoffs to New Zealand.

Defending champions Iraq are in Group D along with fierce local rivals Iran, North Korea and the United Arab Emirates. North Korea, who were surprise qualifiers for the 2010 World Cup, are making their first appearance in the tournament since 1992. Iran have always performed consistently in this tournament and are tied for the most number of wins along with Saudi Arabia and Japan. 1996 champions UAE, coached by Srecko Katanec, can prove to be a handful on their day.…

Star studded and storied franchise Liverpool has gone 19 years without a league title, but many football experts are predicting that this year could be all about them. Expectations are high and not even the loss of star Xabi Alonso has dampened the hoped of Liverpool fans. It will definitely be an exciting season in the English Premier League and live Liverpool games are going to provide a lot of great football. You can watch Liverpool live by tuning in right here on OleOleFootball, your source for the best live online football.

While there are high hopes for the team Rafael Benitez was unable to do all the tinkering that he hoped to. He did acquire Glen Johnson and Alberto Aquilani but he wanted to do much more. The loss of Alonso undoes most of his work but the team still thinks they will be just fine without him. They will miss his play but it will be exciting to see how Benitez spends the money he received in the transfer.

The team needs to add a few players as their roster is short but the have the makings of an incredible team. They need to make a move to replace Sami Hyppia and find more support for Fernando Torres and Steven Gerrard. There are rumblings that Benitez has close to 40 million pounds to spend and he may use it to attract David Silva or possibly Sylvain Distin. Either way, Johnson will be keen to provide support for Dirk Kuyt and it looks like Liverpool is one or two players away from possibly competing for the top spot in the Premier League.

Liverpool will undoubtedly bring their A game to the live English Premier League and will be competing at the top of the division. Whether they can claim the top spot and overcome the loss of Alonso remains to be seen. The best way to find out how Liverpool will play is by tuning into Liverpool live games right here on OleOleFootball.…

Hull City

Phil Brown has always been regarded as a man that can attract talent and improve his team, but that ability seems to be waning lately quite quickly. He was unable to bring anyone to KC stadium this summer of relevance and that will make this season a struggle for Hull City. Tune in and see if Hull City can compete with what they have and enjoy Hull City live football thanks to OleOleFootball.

Just to name a few people that turned down Hull City this summer, Fraizer Campbell, Bobby Zamora and Michael Owen all spurned the team. They did manage to bring in Steven Mouyokolo as their only off season signing and then secured Seyi Olofinjana from Stoke and Jozy Altidore on loan from Villarreal.

Hull City is trying to fight back from their horrible slide last year as they were only able to win 1 game in their last 23. They were only able to escape relegation thanks to Newcastle United’s colossal collapse.

Brown has had success and this kind of disappointment is not common for him so he is obviously trying to pull his team back. The team has just continued to have a lot of bad luck that seemed to start in January, and especially when their big signing Jimmy Bullard got injured in his first game.

This season Hull City will depend on the return of Bullard to top form and help that he can contribute to the fine play of Nick Barmby and Geovanni. While scoring goals will most likely continue to be a problem, their defense is in top form and should keep them in a number of games.

While Hull City’s defense be enough to help them avoid relegation or will the other teams in the Premier League overpower them? You can watch every moment of the live Hull City action right here on OleOleFootball, your home for English Premier League games all season long.…
